The Wholesale and Retail SETA Internship Programme 2026 is a twelve-month, full-time internship for unemployed diploma graduates who have not yet gained work experience.

The programme offers practical workplace exposure in a structured professional environment. Interns are placed in different departments where they support daily administrative functions linked to the Diploma in Office Administration.

Only candidates who are unemployed and who have never participated in a SETA-funded internship or learnership may apply. A total of 20 internship positions are available.

Purpose of the Internship

The main goal of the programme is to help graduates move from academic study into the workplace.

Interns gain hands-on experience while learning how a professional office operates. The programme also helps participants develop discipline, confidence, and workplace communication skills.

This exposure improves employability and prepares graduates for future administrative roles.

Duties and Responsibilities

Interns will perform a range of office administration tasks. Duties will depend on departmental placement but generally include:

Providing daily administrative support
Assisting with filing, record keeping, and data capturing
Managing documents in line with office procedures
Supporting meeting arrangements and taking minutes
Preparing and distributing internal and external correspondence
Using office systems and MS Office applications
Responding to routine enquiries from staff and stakeholders
Assisting with reports and administrative tracking
Applying time management and organisational skills
Following workplace policies, ethics, and confidentiality rules
Participating in workplace learning and SETA monitoring activities

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all requirements listed below. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

To qualify, applicants must:

Hold a Diploma in Office Administration at NQF Level 6 from CUT
Not be studying full-time
Be a South African citizen or permanent resident
Be currently unemployed
Have no previous participation in any SETA-funded internship or learnership
Have no formal work experience
Be willing to sign an internship agreement
Be available for the full 12-month period
