University of Venda, in partnership with AgriSETA, has officially opened applications for the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme for 2026.
This programme is designed to place agriculture students into real farming environments where they can gain hands-on experience while earning a monthly stipend. The initiative supports students who are required to complete workplace-based learning as part of their diploma qualifications.

Who Can Apply

Work Integrated Learning Responsibilities
The WIL placement is practical and field-based. Participants will be involved in a wide range of agricultural activities, including the following:
Practical Agricultural Exposure
Students will take part in day-to-day farming operations to gain experience beyond the classroom environment.
Livestock Management
Support activities related to feeding, health monitoring, growth assessment, reproduction, vaccination, and deworming.
Crop Production
Assist with planting, pruning, harvesting, and routine crop maintenance under real farming conditions.
Soil Sampling and Soil Health
Conduct soil sampling and testing, and support soil fertility improvement and conservation practices.
Pest, Disease and Animal Welfare
Participate in pest control, disease management, and animal welfare practices aligned with agricultural standards.
Irrigation Systems
Assist with the installation, monitoring, and management of irrigation systems to promote efficient water use.
Farm Mechanisation and Equipment
Support the safe use, handling, and maintenance of farm machinery and equipment.
Recordkeeping and Agricultural Data
Collect and record data related to crop yields, livestock performance, and soil health indicators.
Sustainable and Integrated Farming Practices
Participate in conservation agriculture, agroforestry, and environmentally responsible farming methods.
