Become a Qualified Artisan: South West Gauteng TVET College (SWGC) Apprenticeships 2026

The South West Gauteng TVET College (SWGC), in collaboration with the FoodBev SETA, has launched the 2026 Centre of Specialisation (CoS) Apprenticeship intake. This is not just a short-term learnership; it is a full 36-month professional pathway designed to turn N2 and NCV graduates into fully qualified artisans.
With 60 positions available across the Molapo and Roodepoort West campuses, this programme targets high-demand engineering trades that are critical to South Africa’s manufacturing sector.
2026 Trade Breakdown
- Fitter and Turner (25 Posts): Based at Molapo Campus.
- Mechanical Fitter (25 Posts): Based at Molapo Campus.
- Electricians (10 Posts): Based at Roodepoort West Campus.
🎓 Student Desk Expert Guide: How to Secure Your Trade Spot
To beat the thousands of applicants, you need to understand the “hidden” requirements of this CoS intake:
- The “Pure Maths” Filter: Unlike some learnerships that accept Technical Maths or Maths Literacy, this FoodBev SETA programme prioritizes Pure Mathematics. If you have an N2 or N3, ensure your Fitter and Turner or Electrical Trade Theory marks are clearly visible on your transcript, as these are the “tie-breaker” subjects during screening.
- Age and Residency: This intake is strictly for South African youth under 35. Because the training happens at Molapo and Roodepoort West, priority is often given to students who already reside in the Soweto or Roodepoort regions to ensure consistent attendance over the 3-year contract.
- The “CoS” Advantage: Being part of a “Centre of Specialisation” means you are receiving the highest level of TVET training available in SA. You will sign a formal apprenticeship agreement that includes both theoretical training and workplace exposure—making you highly employable upon completion.
- Vetting Note: SWGC will conduct its own internal assessment process. Do not just rely on your certificates; refresh your knowledge of basic hand tools and electrical/mechanical principles, as a practical or written test is often part of the selection.
