🚀 Student Desk Expert Insight: Choosing Between These Two Trades
Not sure which path to take? Here is the industrial breakdown of these two high-demand mining roles:
- The Boilermaker (Ref: RYV9X866): This is for students who enjoy large-scale construction. You will learn to interpret technical drawings, cut, and shape massive steel structures. In a mine, Boilermakers keep the heavy machinery and structural integrity of the plant intact.
- The Fitter & Turner (Ref: W368RWYW): This is for those who love precision. You will focus on the maintenance and repair of mechanical machinery, engines, and pumps. You will learn how to use lathes and milling machines to manufacture high-precision parts.
- Earning Potential: Both trades are in the “Critical Skills” category for South Africa. Qualified artisans at Implats are among the most stable and well-compensated technical professionals in the country.
