EWSETA Accredited Skills Programme 2026: Battery Energy Systems

Ehlanzeni TVET College, in partnership with EWSETA and GFA Consulting Group, is inviting 30 unemployed youth to apply for a specialized 5-month accredited skills programme in Battery-Based Domestic Energy Systems.
As South Africa shifts toward renewable energy, this NQF Level 4 qualification (60 Credits) provides the technical and business skills needed to enter the solar and battery storage industry.
Programme Overview
- Qualification: Battery-Based Domestic Energy System Mounters (NQF Level 4).
- Duration: 5 Months.
- Location: Mbombela, Mpumalanga.
- Closing Date: 09 March 2026 at 15h00.
- Stipend: A monthly stipend is provided. Based on EWSETA’s 2026 Discretionary Grant guidelines, unemployed learners in skills programmes typically receive R3,000 per month.

- The High-Bar Requirement: This programme is for top performers. You need a minimum of 75% in EIC Level 4 or 65% in Electrical Engineering N6. If your marks are lower, your application will likely be filtered out immediately.
- QCTO Accreditation: This is a QCTO-aligned programme. Unlike informal “solar workshops,” this 60-credit qualification is recognized by formal employers and counts toward your professional development as a technician.
- The Hand-Delivery Rule: Unlike most 2026 applications, this cannot be emailed. You must physically go to the Mbombela Campus. If you are traveling from outside Mbombela, ensure you arrive before the 15:00 cut-off on Monday.

What You Will Master
The curriculum is split between technical mastery and business management:
- Installation: Mounting domestic Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and solar panels.
- Maintenance: Troubleshooting, servicing, and replacing faulty electrical components.
- Commissioning: Safe testing and briefing customers on system usage.
- Business: Managing projects, quoting, and client service for your own small business.
Minimum Requirements
To apply, you must meet the following strict criteria:
- Academic: Electrical Infrastructure Construction (EIC) Level 4 (75% pass) OR Electrical Engineering N6 (65% pass).
- Affiliation: Must be a current or former student of Ehlanzeni TVET College.
- Status: Unemployed South African citizen, aged 18–35.
- Exclusion: You must not have previously participated in any other SETA-funded learnership or internship.
