SANParks & CATHSSETA 2026 Field Guiding Skills Programme – Apply Now!

South African National Parks (SANParks), in partnership with the Culture, Arts, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHSSETA), has opened applications for the 2026 Field Guiding Skills Programme. This 18-month paid programme is based at Bontebok National Park in the Western Cape and offers unemployed youth practical training, real workplace exposure, and a pathway into conservation and eco-tourism careers. With only two positions available, applicants are encouraged to apply promptly.

About the Programme

The Field Guiding Skills Programme blends formal training with hands-on experience to ensure participants leave with practical skills, not just theoretical knowledge. The programme runs for 18 months, split into two phases:

  • Phase 1: Skills Training (6 months)
    • Monthly stipend: R2 695
    • Focus on foundational guiding skills, theory, and practical exercises
  • Phase 2: Workplace Placement (12 months)
    • Monthly stipend: R3 500
    • Full workplace exposure in SANParks operations

Training costs incurred for travel to off-site sessions are covered by SANParks, reducing financial pressure on participants.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • South African citizen
  • Under 35 years of age
  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
  • Unemployed at the time of application
  • Reside within 40–100 km of Bontebok National Park
  • Physically fit with a clear criminal record
  • First-time beneficiaries of SANParks skills programmes, learnerships, or internships

Incomplete or non-compliant applications will not be considered.
