Valterra Platinum is offering learnerships in the following engineering trades:

  • Electrician (2 positions)
  • Boilermaker (2 positions)
  • Mechanical Fitter (2 positions)
  • Diesel Mechanic (3 positions)
  • Measurement Control and Instrumentation (2 positions)
  • Auto Electrician (2 positions)
  • Millwright (2 positions)

Each trade offers structured exposure to industry-relevant tools, systems, and processes within a mining environment.


Minimum Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following minimum requirements:

Option 1: Matric Route

  • Matric with Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy), Physical Science, and English
  • Minimum 40% pass in all required subjects

Option 2: N2 Qualification Route

  • N2 or higher qualification
  • All four subjects passed, including Mathematics and Engineering Science
  • Trade-specific subjects as required:
    • Boilermaker: Plating/Welders Theory and Structural Steelwork Drawings
    • Electrical: Electrical Trade Theory and Industrial Electronics or Engineering Drawings
    • Diesel Mechanic: Diesel or Motor Trade Theory and Engineering Drawings
    • Mechanical Fitter: Fitting Trade Theory and Engineering Drawings
    • Instrument Mechanician: Instrument Trade Theory and Industrial Electronics
    • Auto Electrician: Motor Electrical Trade Theory and Industrial Electronics
    • Millwright: Electrical and Fitting Trade Theories, Engineering Drawings, or Industrial Electronics
