🚀 Student Desk Expert Insight: The Value of a Handyman Qualification
In the South African job market, “multi-skilled” workers are often more employable than specialists in a single trade. Here is why this NQF 3 programme is a high-value move:
- NQF Level 3 Foundation: An NQF Level 3 qualification is equivalent to Grade 11. For those who left school early, this provides a formal academic “step up” that is recognized by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
- The “Generalist” Advantage: A qualified Assistant Handyman doesn’t just do one thing. You learn the basics of four major trades: Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, and Painting. This makes you the “first responder” for property managers and homeowners.
- Stipend vs. Upskilling: For the unemployed group, the R2,000 monthly stipend acts as an essential “enablement” fund to cover transport to the Kempton Park campus, ensuring that financial barriers don’t stop your technical growth.
