Purpose of the Role
The Learning Practitioner is responsible for identifying learning and skills development needs, selecting and applying appropriate learning methodologies, developing and updating training materials, and facilitating learning interventions and assessments. The role ensures that employees and learners meet statutory, operational, and quality requirements within the power station environment.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Learning Needs and Skills Development
- Conduct skills gap analyses by comparing current competence against required standards
- Identify appropriate learning interventions to close skills gaps
- Assess target populations and determine whether learning interventions need to be developed or adapted
- Support line management in evaluating competence using standard proficiency criteria

Training Delivery and Facilitation
- Facilitate formal classroom-based and on-the-job learning interventions
- Apply a range of learning methodologies aligned to the 70:20:10 learning model
- Develop structured, fit-for-purpose learning plans in collaboration with employees, subject matter experts, and line managers
Assessment, Compliance, and Quality Assurance
- Conduct NQF-aligned assessments and workplace evaluations
- Confirm successful completion of learning interventions
- Support the competency declaration process
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards, Sasol learning frameworks, and legal requirements
- Participate in TRA reviews, PDAs, HAZOPs, and MOCs where required
Learning Administration and Reporting
- Update and maintain employee learning records on the learning management system
- Track and monitor progress against agreed learning plans
- Investigate deviations and agree on corrective actions with stakeholders
- Develop and maintain monthly and annual learning progress reports
Continuous Improvement and Governance
- Review and update learning material and training modules as required
- Monitor the effectiveness and return on investment of learning technologies
- Support line management with updating standard operating procedures and training documentation
- Provide guidance on skills development, workplace skills plans, and learning sustainability
Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements
Applicants must meet the following educational criteria:
- Grade 12 or N3 with Mathematics, Physical Science, and English
- Occupational Trade Certificate: Mechanical Red Seal
- Certificate in ETDP (advantageous)
- Qualified NQF Level 4 Constituent Assessor (advantageous)
- Diploma or similar qualification in training will be an advantage
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years relevant working experience in a technical and training-related environment
