🚀 Student Desk Expert Insight: Advancing Your EMS Career
Moving from basic life support to a Higher Certificate (NQF 5) is a significant professional leap. Here is what you need to prepare for:
- The Fitness Factor: Unlike standard academic courses, your acceptance is conditional on a Medical and Physical Fitness Assessment. You will be tested on agility, strength, and endurance. Start your physical preparation now to ensure you pass the baseline requirements.
- APS Calculation: Life Orientation is excluded from your APS calculation. You need a minimum of 18 points from your top six subjects. If you are slightly below this, check if your “Senior Certificate” subjects (pre-2009) can be converted using the departmental conversion table.
- Clinical Credits: This programme carries 125 credits. It is an intensive 12-month journey that combines high-pressure theory with clinical rotations in ambulances and emergency rooms.
Minimum Admission Requirements
To qualify for the 3 April deadline, you must be a current KZN Health EMS employee and meet one of the following:
1. National Senior Certificate (NSC)
