LG SETA Artisan Programme 2026: Earn an Occupational Certificate

Majuba TVET College, in partnership with the Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LG SETA), has launched the 2026 Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) Programme. This initiative is specifically designed for experienced but uncertified workers in KwaZulu-Natal to formalize their skills into a nationally recognized Occupational Certificate: Boilermaker.
The ARPL process is a vital bridge for those who have spent years on-site but lack the “paperwork” to prove their expertise. By converting your practical knowledge into a formal trade certificate, you can significantly increase your earning potential and job security.
Quick Intake Overview
- Organization: LG SETA & Majuba TVET College
- Location: Newcastle/Newcastle Training Centre, KwaZulu-Natal
- Closing Date: 13 March 2026 (Urgent)
- Qualification: Occupational Certificate: Boilermaker (NQF Level 4 equivalent)
- Available Slots: 15 positions only
🚀 Student Desk Expert Insight: What is ARPL?
Many workers are “Artisans by experience” but “Unqualified by law.” The ARPL process fixes this. Here is how it works:
- No Need to Redo College: You don’t have to sit in a classroom for three years. ARPL acknowledges that the “workplace is the classroom.”
- The Trade Test Gateway: The ultimate goal of this programme is to prepare you for the Trade Test. Once you pass, you are a “Red Seal” Artisan—the highest standard for trades in South Africa.
- QCTO Accredited: Your certificate will be issued by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO), making it valid for work in mining, government, and international engineering firms.

How to Apply (Closing 13 March 2026)
Because there are only 15 slots, you must ensure your email application is perfect.
- Email Address: applicationsnewcastletrainingc@gmail.com
- Subject Line: ARPL: BOILERMAKER
- Format: Single PDF attachment only.
Pro Tip: Your Employer Confirmation Letter is the most important part of your application. Ensure it uses technical terms like “Fabrication,” “Structural Welding,” “Reading Blueprints,” and “Pressure Vessel Repair.” This proves to the assessors that you are a high-level candidate ready for a Trade Test.
