🚀 Student Desk Expert Insight: Navigating the Big Day
Graduation is a logistical exercise as much as a celebration.
- The Academic Procession: Arrive at least 60 to 90 minutes early. The procession is the formal start of the ceremony where the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, and Faculty Deans enter the hall. Once the doors close for the procession, latecomers are often not allowed to enter the main floor.
- The Missing Name Protocol: If you have settled your fees and completed your credits but your name was missing from the 27 March list, you must immediately email graduation@uwc.ac.za. Do not wait until your ceremony day to resolve administrative or financial blocks.
- Dress Code: This is a formal event. While your Academic Dress (Gown, Hood, and Mortarboard) is mandatory for the stage, ensure your attire underneath is professional and comfortable for walking across the stage.

[STRATEGY] The “Virtual” Guest List
UWC provides extensive digital support for family members who cannot travel to Bellville:
- Livestream Links: Each of the 13 ceremonies is broadcast live on the UWC YouTube Channel. Share the link with family early so they can test their connection.
- Graduation Booklets: Digital booklets containing the names of all graduates and the order of proceedings are available for download on the UWC Graduation Portal. This makes a great digital keepsake.
- Photography: Professional photographers are on-site. While family can take photos from their seats, they are generally not allowed to move to the front of the stage during the conferral.
Essential Checklist for Graduates
- Final List: Confirm your name and faculty on the official UWC website.
